When it comes to Los Angeles museums, the words “free admission” have a certain ring. Imagine standing before a priceless van Gogh without having paid a dime, or strolling through the galleries and gardens filled with Roman statuary at the renowned Getty Villa without having to “make the most out of your money.” Artistic « free »-dom indeed.

53. Banning Residence Museum: The 1864 Greek Revival residence, the Banning Residence Museum, is the former home of General Phineas Banning, the « father » of the Los Angeles Harbor.

Je n’en reviens pas de lire un commentaire aussi peu édifiant que celui de Michel Beaumont. Pitoyable. Quand on met en place des incubateurs de culture, c’est de l’éducation. Alors oui on génère de la richesse. La richesse est générée par les cerveaux. Il est davantage important d’intervenir dans un milieu socio-économique moins homogène et plus complexe, comme le quartier Saint-Sauveur. La richesse, ça ne se limite pas et ça ne se calcule avec des colonnes de chiffres dans un bilan financier annuel.

Le Musée de la civilisation a un budget annuel de fonctionnement de 20 millions. Les billets représentent une somme d’1 million.

Il fut un temps où on pouvait entrer gratuitement au Musée national des beaux arts du Québec (Musée du Québec). Puis Diane Lemieux, ministre, a éliminé ce privilège en 2002. Il en coûte 18$ ($16, si vous avez 65 ans et plus) pour entrer. Je n’y suis pas retourné depuis. l’Aquarium du Québec a des tarifs d’entrée trop élevés. Je n’y suis pas allé depuis cette nouvelle grille. il faut des tarifs abordables. D’où le besoin de subventions.

1- Je ne dis pas de fermer le Grand Théâtre, ni les autres salles de spectacles. Au moins ils vendent des billets et génèrent un peu d’argent, sans toutefois couvrir entièrement leur budget!

2- Les Musées vivent des subventions et des dons du mécénat. Mais au moins des gens achètent des billets pour entrer, même si, malheureusement, cela ne réussit pas à leur sortir la tête hors de l’eau.

3- La maison de la culture dans St-Sauveur, telle que décrite plus haut, en sera une à vocation locale ou paroissiale. Bonne chance pour les revenus!

Pour ce qui est de Robert Lepage, il appartient aux ligues majeures, c’est autre chose.

« Cependant, il me semble qu’une maison de la culture ne génère aucune richesse. » En passant, combien de richesse génèrent ensemble le Musée National des Beaux-Arts et le Musée de la civilisation ? Merci.

Un tel édifice coûte cher et doit obligatoirement rapporter beaucoup pour son entretien général, les assurances, le déneigement du toit, plomberie, électricité, surveillance etc.

Ne serait-il pas mieux de  » lâcher  » le charme et la frivolité de la culture pour s’attarder soigneusement au rapport comptable qui nous ramène les deux pieds sur terre?

Je n’ai rien contre la culture mais encore faut-il en avoir les moyens!
